First round

A twenty to twenty-five minutes balanced solo recital with the three following pieces :
• a free-choice piece written during the 18th century (original or transcription)
a free-choice original work for harp, composed by an harpist composer between 1800 and 1950
a free-choice original work for harp composed after 1950
(suggestions : Naji Hakim ”Jeu”, Philippe Hersant ”Bamyan”, Heinz Holliger ”Sequenzen über Johannes I, 32” by Heinz Holliger, …)

Final round – with chamber orchestra

a free choice concerto from the list below:
• G.F.Händel: Concerto in B flat Major HWV 294 (NOT Grandjany version)
G.Christoph Wagenseil : Concerto for harp in G Major
Elias Parish-Alvars: ”Introduction and Variations on themes of Bellini´s Norma” (the same solo part but with original accompagnement of chamber orchestra, you can write to info@pratteharpfestival.se to get the scores)
• Claude Debussy . ”Danses”
• Maurice Ravel: ”Introduction et Allegro”

Important notice

Important notice: depending on the number of the applications we will get by March 24th, we might have to make a pre-selection of the contestants. That’s why we are kindly asking all the contestants to send a unedited video recording of a solo piece of their choice along with their application. The length of the piece should be between 5 and 10 minutes and the recording not older than November 1, 2018. This piece should preferably not be a part of the chosen competition repertoire. The video link (YouTube, vimeo, mp4…) can be sent to info@pratteharpfestival.se. On March 25th, we will notify all the applicants whether there will be or not a pré-sélection.

Rules and regulations

The first Pratté International Harp Competition for Young Talents will take place between May 9th and May 12th 2019 in Norrköping Concert Hall (Norrköping De Geerhallen), Sweden.
 
1. It is open to harpists of all nationalities born after 01/01/1993.
 
2. All stages of the Competition are open to the public and will take place on an open stage without a screen.
 
3. All works must be performed from memory, except for the original piece written after 1950 in the first round.
 
4. In the first round, the contestant may choose the performance order.
 
5. Salvi and Lyon and Healy Harps will be provided for the competition.
Each contestant gets 30 minutes the day preceeding the first round (on 9th of May) to choose and practice on the harp he would like to play on at competition. Before his performance, the contestant gets 25 minutes warming.up time on a warming-up harp in an individual room.
Contestants are allowed to bring their own instruments.
 
6. Full applications should be sent no later than Sunday 24th of March 2019, 11.59 PM. The registration fee must be paid no later than Friday 5th of April 2019.
 
7. There will be a drawing for the competition first round on the 9th of May at 4PM in Norrköping Concert Hall.
 
8. The first round will take place on Friday the 10 th of May, the final round  (with chamber orchestra) in the afternoon of Saturday the 11th of May, with rehearsal in the morning that same day. The final results will be known at the prize ceremony that will take place during the  Gala Concert, on Sunday 12th at 3PM. The winner will then have the opportunity to perform once again his piece with the chamber orchestra.
 
9. The contestant accepts that his performance may be recorded.
 
10. The decisions of the jury are final.

Prizes

First Prize : 20 000 SEK/ 2000 EUR
Second Prize: 10 000 SEK/ 1000 EUR
Third Prize: 5000 SEK/ 500 EUR

Audience Prize: 3000 SEK/ 300 EUR
Prize for the best interpretation of the harpist-composer piece in the first round: 3000 SEK/ 300 EUR
And other awards to be revealed at the closing ceremony!
